CSTR8 Golf Technology set out to understand why the golf industry chose the materials they use to build their putters. Stainless Steel is the material of choice, but why? CSTR8 Golf Technology created research using Stainless Steel, Germany Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Brass, Composite and Beryllium Copper. The criteria for the research were based on 1. Feel 2. Roll 3. Sound 4. Overall performance to the hole. They were tested from 3 feet, 5 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, 20 feet and 30 feet. The results from the material test lead CSTR8 Golf Technology to concentrate on one material. Its performance was vastly different from the other 5 materials.
To the surprise of everyone involved, both grades of Stainless steel finished 4 and 5. CSTR8 Golf Technology had a clear path on material. Doing research on putters from the 1970, 80’s and 90’s again Ping was at the fore front. The material finishing ahead of everyone was being experimented back in those decades but not utilized. The 1990’s brought the material more into the mainstream. All materials were overtaken by stainless steel in the 2000’s and remain at the front of material design to this day. What the market says, is not necessarily correct. CSTR8 Golf Technology believes in research and then designing from the results.
