Gripping Performance

The grip remained the challenge for CSTR8 Golf Technology. The education for CSTR8 Golf Technolgy had to start with the change of the grip. It evolved from a round to a paddle grip. (flat front) This remains the standard grip on most putters today. Why?

To explore the change CSTR8 Golf Technology had to understand the value of the paddle grip. The paddle grip allowed the player to have both thumbs resting on the flat part of the grip. The player had difficulty over time creating a repeatable putting stroke. The putter grip was made from rubber allowing a consistent gram weight. This weight was +/- 3 grams. The feel of the putter was extremely heavy. This is a feel most players are comfortable using. The player had to develop a different performance with a paddle grip. It was different than the other thirteen pieces of equipment in their bag. The shape of the grip changed. The player now had to create two different routines while playing golf. The inconsistences of putts per round became the tipping point for every player. The player would have 30 putts one round, and the next round would have 34 putts. Many different variables exist from round to round, but it could all be from a grip that is not fit for the player to perform.

To clarify the point of the grip CSTR8 Golf Technology turned to Jordan Speith. Jordan Speith has always been considered one of the better putters on the PGA Tour. The run he had from 2014 thru 2017 was magic. During with time, he gave us major championships and winning. Jordan was frequently questioned on why he putted so well. He stated that his grip was put on the shaft of the putter off center. The player had figured out a way to make this standard industry grip perform with his putting stroke. The player had to alter the way the grip was put on for him to perform at the highest level. Rickie Fowler was the #1 putter on the PGA tour in 2018. Today Rickie struggles with consistent putting. The equipment changes have not yielded consistent results. It is CSTR8 Golf Technology belief that the drop from the #1 putter on tour all came from the grip.
